Phra Pathom Chedi is located in Muang District, Nakhon Pathom Province, 56 kilometers west of Bangkok. The chedi (stupa) rises 127 meters into the air with the radius of the base of 233.50 meters.
Over 2,000 years ago, a Buddhism missionary from lndia was sent to introduce Buddhism and its philosophy to a land called Suwannaphum, which had Nakhon Pathom as its capital.
The name Phra Pathom Chedi means Holy chedi (stupa) of the beginning. It is the largest and tallest buddist monument the world.
